Gladhander took on a whimsical theme this year with “Seuss on the Loose.” The event is a high-energy evening of oral, silent and Internet auctioning of hundreds of items. Auction items can include everything such as expected restaurant certificates to the unusual, such as the opportunity to throw out the first pitch during a Detroit Tigers game.
“The spirited bidding from the main event was certainly a factor with the success of the auction this year,” says co-chair Bill Marsh Jr., “But we also attributed our growth to a 30-percent increase in raffle sales over the previous years.”
The Gladhander Raffle gives the winner a chance to choose between one of two brand new vehicles or $32,000 in cash. While there are a number of other cash prize winners, the top prize was claimed by Dorothy Barlett of Grawn. Barlett opted to take the cash prize.
This was the 29th year for Gladhander, which over the years has raised more than $9-million. The money helps provide operating cash for more than 1,000 students in the Catholic school system.
“Every penny of the money raised will be thoughtfully spend on students, our curriculum and our faith-based system,” says Marsh.
