National Trout Festival Starts Next Week In Kalkaska

The sparkling streams of Northern Michigan will soon come alive with anglers attempting to catch the big trout. They're looking for the trout that becomes the subject of family tales that will live on for decades. But whether you fish or not, the community of Kalkaska also springs to life to celebrate the natural wonders of the north through the National Trout Festival.

For 74 years the Trout Festival has become the small town festival that attracts neighbors and visitors to a wide variety of events. Activities this year include a Kalkaska Idol talent contest, Wii bowling tournament, horse pull contest, fishing contests, a carnival, an ugly truck contest, a parade and the crowning of a Trout Festival King and Queen.

The Trout Festival attempts to create a family-centered event that celebrates the north’s natural resources, trout fishing and sportsmanship. Organizers say they aggressively promote environmental education through the arts and entertainment.

A full line up of Festival events is available at www.NationalTroutFestival.com. Events often change due to weather or other complications so those interested in attending are encourage to visit the website regularly.
